Singapore’s 1st ever Pipe Exhibition

On 7/11/11(Mon), some where in Changi Village, in a big colonial bungalow facing the South China sea, we had a series of pipe events for members only.

It officially started at 10.30am and ended at 4pm. There were so many pipes of all sizes and shapes on display by private collectors. Some of these amounted to more than $10,000 a piece. Some very rare and vintage ones were also on display.

There was a pipe smoking competition. Pipe polishing and servicing were also provided for members. There was another corner displaying gas masks, caps and helmets from the Soviet era. Very impressive indeed.

The food was great esp the ox tail, cupcakes, chicken curry, vermicelli/noodle, foie gras etc. There was so much free flow of beer, whisky, juices and soft drinks. All prepared by our members. No outside caterer. It is basically a private function with 3 German VIPs namely Bodo, Heinz and Jeorg gracing the occasion.

The highlight of the event was the 5 pieces of Dunhil pipe auction. They were sold between $300 to $550. Each Dunhill pipe easily costs more than $1,000. Earlier there was a pipe smoking competition with a brand new Dunhill pipe from London costing more than $1,000. Ronnie Wong – an old pipe veteran from Elias Mall pipe group easily snapped the prize!

Everyone brought back a goodie bag with a mystery gift!

At the end of the day when all was over, we sat at the pouch and enjoyed ourselves. We had a most intellectually stimulating and relaxing conversation and lively exchange of ideas – all done in the spirit of friendship and understanding. The last members to leave the premises, namely our German VIPs left at about 8pm.

It was a great day. We all enjoyed it so much esp our German VIP friends. It was a resounding success with contributions from all members in one way or another. Cheers !
